In this blog post we are going to explain how you can derestrict your Specialized eBike using a tuning chip. Before we start, please note that removing the speed limit on your eBike can potentially void your warranty, eBikes with the speed restriction removed are illegal and only to be used on private land.

What display does your Specialized eBike have?
Before we jump in to the different tuning chips for Specialized eBikes we need to establish what form of display your bike has. By understanding what display you have, it makes selecting the right tuning kit a breeze.
You can find your display below:
Mastermind TCU
This display is commonly found on flagship models like S Works Turbo Levo or Turbo Creo SLs
LED TCU Display
You'll find this display on 2024 mid-range models such as Turbo Levo Alloy & Turbo Levo SL as well as older generation Turbo Levo's from 2019-2021
Turbo Connect Unit (TCD) Display
This display can be found on the Specialized Tero range

- Accurate speed readings when riding derestricted
- True plug & ride tuning with no specialist skills or tools required

Best Tuning Kit for Specialized eBikes with a LED TCU Display
Speedbox 3.0 B.Tuning for Specialized
Our #1 pick for eBikes with the LED TCU display comes from Speedbox. This Speedbox 3.0B tuning kit is new for 2024. Due to it's growing popularity, we've written a dedicated review for it here
Here's 3 reasons why you'll want to consider this tuning kit:
- True plug & ride tuning no specialist tools required
- Lifetime warranty
- Access to the Speedbox app, giving you a load of advance features like; tuning control, custom max speed, motor lock, invisible mode and diagnostics
Please note, this tuning kit will not work with a SL models fitted with a Mastermind TCU (scroll back up to our first recommendation). Contact our team on support@ebiketuner.com if you're unsure if this kit is right for your bike.
Best Tuning Kit for Specialized eBikes with TCD Display
Speedbox 3.0 B.Tuning for Brose Specialized eBikes
Unlike the previous two models, this Speedbox is fitted to the motor itself. Due to how the TCD is fitted, it requires a different type of tuning kit. Installation does take a bit longer, you'll need the correct tools to remove the cover from the motor to gain access. Here's why riders love this tuning kit;
- Simple activation using the handlebar controls or Speedbox app
- Custom max speed, trip tracking & diagnostics
- Lifetime warranty
If you are looking for a cheaper option and don't want the advanced features, you can opt for this standard version (same performance just none of the bluetooth connectivity)

Best Tuning Kit for eBikes with Brose motors (Non-Specialized)
If you own an eBike with a Brose motor that isn't Specialized branded (Fantic, Rotwild or Rockrider to name but a few). You might be wondering what tuning kit will work. The good news is Speedbox has you covered.
Compatible with any Brose S, S-Mag, C or T motor. The Speedbox 3.0 B.Tuning for Brose Specialized eBikes enables you to derestrict your bike just like any Specialized rider can. The benefits of this kit are listed above. The only thing to note, you must select the B.Tuning version since activation may not be possible using your handlebar controls.
Conclusion
As you can see there are lots of options when it comes to derestricting a Specialized eBike. However, by identifying your display type it's the easiest way to shop in confidence. Hi Ebike Tuner
I am interested in the Speedbox 3.0 but have a few questions
Firstly i have a Specialized 5.0 turbo IGH WITH Brose 2.2 motor manufactured in 2022.
Can Specialized Mission Control display on the bike still be used to display information & still be used to configure the bike via the Specialized App
Will the Mission Control display on the bike still work once a Speedbox is installed, if yes will the Mission Control continue to display my true speed?
Can Specialized detect the Speedbox chip when they perform a system upgrade?
Your publication material says the chip is completely undetectable, what exactly is meant by that.
If I remove the Speedbox chip after some usage can Specialized detect there has been a Speedbox chip used in the past?
Is it likely that Specialized would introduce a software update that would disable to Speedbox chip ?
Finally I understand I can set the speed limit with the Speed box and will probably set it to the motors design speed capability of 28.8 mph but what is the maximum speed that it could be set to?
Thanks so much
Regards
Colin
What speedbox would I use for Specialized Vado SL 5.0 anyone?
I have just installed one on a Trek Allianz +7
Thanks in advance
I bought the Speedbox 3.0 tuning kit for my Specialized Como 3 650b 1.2 motor. It seems to work well however the display of the. Speed is not constant and alternates between 2 values constantly so I do not know how fast I drive. Also the distance traveled does not seem correct *about half the actual distance!
When I activate the speedbox the display indicates 99km but I can not adjust the speed as indicated in your instructions with —-+ then the only possible choices are 99km or 25km either on or off. In Canada the maximum speed allowed is 32 km!
Do you have a solution for me? Thank you
