VOLspeed V4 Tuning Kit for Bosch eBikes - Full Review

In this blog post we are going to review the VOLspeed V4 tuning kit and explain the main differences compared to the Speedbox 3.0. Before we start, please note that removing the speed limit on your eBike can void your warranty, derestricted eBikes are illegal and only to be used on private land.

Compatibility

The VOLspeed V4 tuning chip is an updated version of the hugely successful V3 model. It is compatible with a variety Bosch eBikes from 2014-24. Please note it is not compatible with the 'Smart System' models (read our review here). The displays compatible with this tuning kit are on the left side.

What we love about it

Plug & Ride Installation

The V4 is very easy to fit, on most bikes only the motor cover needs to be removed. On some older models you may need to drop the motor out, you can contact us first if you're unsure. Once connected, the tuning kit is ready to be set to your desired max speed (up to 28mph/45kmh).

Tamper Detection

The VOLspeed V4 has been the most reliable Bosch tuning chip, resulting in very few 504 (anti-tuning) errors. The majority of errors are caused by riders consistently exceeding a high speed limit (>45km/h). Unlike the Speedbox 3.0 which offers a complete derestriction. This V4 will only allow you to set a new max speed up to 28mph (45kmh). VOLspeed have also improved the anti-tuning technology to reduce the chance of errors further, even on the most recent software update.

No Countdown Required

One of the other popular tuning kits for the Bosch motor is the Speedbox 3.0. The main difference between these two tuning kits is that the Speedbox requires a countdown to be completed after finishing a ride. This is to ensure the correct ride distance is recorded and to reduce the chances of an error being triggered. VOLspeed have smarter tech on their V4. As a result, no countdown is required. Simply switch your bike off whenever you're finished.

Verdict

The VOLspeed V4 has been the bestselling tuning kit for the Bosch motor for the last 5 years. It's built to last, reliable and easy to use. We're not the only ones that love it! It's averaged a 4.9 rating across 200+ reviews but our riders. See for yourself by clicking the link below.

Hello, I recently installed the V4 on my Cannodale Neo. Love the ease of install and speed. The first few time I road the bike 45km/h was easily attainable. However, the pull now seems to really drop off when I reach 40km/h. I still have the speed limit set at 45km/h. Any suggestions on what I may have done to change this??

Good afternoon,

After doing some research I came across the volspeed. I am very interested in purchasing the volspeed v4 for bosch. I’m currently running a peartune mso with my cx motor and had speedbox previously. As you probably know, with these you have to wait before turning off and have some power delays after a while, awkward moments at traffic lights and hills 😅
What I find appealing is that with the volspeed you don’t have to wait to turn them off, which makes it convenient with commuting. The main thing is, does it have the same power delay as the speedbox/peartunes?

Many thanks
Benji

Scenario for my 2021 Focus Jarifa2 6.7 gen4 Bosch motor…I purchase Vol speed 4 install the chip according to your installation manual. I set limit to 40klms p/hr and im riding and at some point either first week or 6 weeks in ….. the dreaded 504 error appears ! …. how do i clear the error ?
Mtb forums say after receiving the 4th 504 error code, this error can only be cleared by the dealer where apon your warranty is now null and void and you sign a waiver agreeing to only ride on private property “if the chip is not removed” and the bike returned to OEM standards.
Is this correct ?

Just installed the V4 on my gen 4 Bosch motor and can’t get it to work. Reinstalled twice with same results. What can be the problem. Need help.
