How To Derestrict a Giant eBike in 2025

In this blog post we are going to discuss how to derestrict a Giant eBike. We will run through the different options for 2017-2025 models including the latest Syncdrive Pro2 motor found on the Trance X and Reign E+. Before we start, please note that removing the speed limit on your eBike can void your warranty and are only to be used on private land.

How to find the correct tuning chip for my Giant eBike?

We’re going to run through the best options for all of the main Giant motors from 2017 onwards. The best way to check what motor you have is to take a look at the specifications provided in your manual or online. You’ll notice that each motor has a different level of torque (nm). Here are the most common examples;

Giant Trance X & Reign E+ with Syncdrive Pro2 (85nm)

Giant Stance E+  with Syncdrive Sport2 (75nm)

Giant Road E+ & Explore E+ with Syncdrive Pro (80nm), Life, Core

Giant Fathom E+ with Syncdrive Sport (70nm)

New for 2025 and compatible with the current Giant software updates. This tuning kit from Speedbox offers plug & ride installation, easy activation & accurate speed/distance. It’s works with any 85nm Syncdrive Pro2 motor or 75nm Syncdrive Sport2 motor.

Looking for a more premium solution? Take a look at this 3.3B version. Bluetooth-enabled, this kit offers all of the above with the addition of being able to easily control and program your chip using the Speedbox app (available on iPhone & Android)

Torx Key TX25

We recommend the Speedbox 3.2 for Giant. It's a true plug & play solution that doesn't require any initial programming, it also gives you full use of the bike’s display. After installing the chip, simply switch the speedbox on/off using your walk button.

Does this affect my warranty?

It’s important to understand that installing a third party device onto your ebike can potentially void your warranty. However, the options we have discussed above are not detectable and are safe for your ebike. All of them are fully tested on the latest software versions.

Hi, I have a 2022 E+0. Can I still run the update for the bike firmware if I have a delimiter plugged into the motor? I was told it would cause an issue with the chip with the most recent update?

Thanks for getting in touch. We advise removing the chip before performing any software update as it can prevent the chips from working.
