VOLspeed V4 Tuning Kit for Bosch eBikes - Full Review

In this blog post we are going to review the VOLspeed V4 tuning kit and explain the main differences compared to the Speedbox 3.0. Before we start, please note that removing the speed limit on your eBike can void your warranty, derestricted eBikes are illegal and only to be used on private land.

Compatibility

The VOLspeed V4 tuning chip is an updated version of the hugely successful V3 model. It is compatible with a variety Bosch eBikes from 2014-24. Please note it is not compatible with the 'Smart System' models (read our review here). The displays compatible with this tuning kit are on the left side.

What we love about it

Plug & Ride Installation

The V4 is very easy to fit, on most bikes only the motor cover needs to be removed. On some older models you may need to drop the motor out, you can contact us first if you're unsure. Once connected, the tuning kit is ready to be set to your desired max speed (up to 28mph/45kmh).

Tamper Detection

The VOLspeed V4 has been the most reliable Bosch tuning chip, resulting in very few 504 (anti-tuning) errors. The majority of errors are caused by riders consistently exceeding a high speed limit (>45km/h). Unlike the Speedbox 3.0 which offers a complete derestriction. This V4 will only allow you to set a new max speed up to 28mph (45kmh). VOLspeed have also improved the anti-tuning technology to reduce the chance of errors further, even on the most recent software update.

No Countdown Required

One of the other popular tuning kits for the Bosch motor is the Speedbox 3.0. The main difference between these two tuning kits is that the Speedbox requires a countdown to be completed after finishing a ride. This is to ensure the correct ride distance is recorded and to reduce the chances of an error being triggered. VOLspeed have smarter tech on their V4. As a result, no countdown is required. Simply switch your bike off whenever you're finished.

Verdict

The VOLspeed V4 has been the bestselling tuning kit for the Bosch motor for the last 5 years. It's built to last, reliable and easy to use. We're not the only ones that love it! It's averaged a 4.9 rating across 200+ reviews but our riders. See for yourself by clicking the link below.

Hello I went through all of your posts of customer questions and I’m not convinced that I’m not going to have problems. Most of these that I see that are having problems are back in 2023. I am in the USA and I run MPG not kilometers. Have the bugs been worked out of this to where I will get a true class 3 28 mph ride?
I’ve been reading that some customers are saying they only get 24 mpg, or their torque has gone down to minimal pull! I’ve also been reading reviews privately across the internet and hear various complaints as well. I personally don’t want to deal with that if it’s going to be giving me issues I know this is not your problem I just want to make this a seamless Plug and Play kind of device being that I have a brand new bike under warranty. I hear people have had their Motors bricked! That’s not good! And the 504 errors. Can someone tell me if these are easily to be able to be reset in case I this happens to me. I use my bike for main transportation and can’t afford to be left on the bus! Sorry to be a constant bug but I am not one to just buy something without doing a lot of intense deep homework. I hope you understand. Thank you for your inputs here to my questions I did not receive clear answers to my specific questions, I was just giving a link to read more of the same stuff that I’ve been reading. Also on the reviews I see multiple duplications of reviews. Thank you

Hi which chip is compatible for the Whyte E160s 2023 model – also reading some comments possibility of drive errors and damage to the man unit !!
or is the a way to de-restrict the bike without the use of the chip Thanks

EBIKE TUNER replied:
Thanks for getting in touch, Mark. We recommend the VOLspeed Smart for your ebike, it allows a derestriction up to 28mph. Most riders run error free, you can minimise the chances of an error by setting a sensible max speed – anything up to 28mph is fine. EBIKE TUNER replied:
Thanks for getting in touch, Jan. If it’s the new version with bosch smart system motor, then the VOLspeed V4 is not compatible. You’ll need the VOLspeed Smart instead. You can order here: https://ebiketuner.com/products/volspeed-ebike-tuning-kit-bosch-smart-system
